CEI Instructions: What the Term Means and How It Works
CEI has a nasty little timing trick: the order sounds perfect while you're desperate, then orgasm hits and your brain tries to backpedal. That whiplash is the point.
CEI, cum eating instructions, sits right at the intersection of humiliation, power exchange, and that delicious post-orgasmic vulnerability where a submissive's ego has absolutely nowhere to hide. It's filthy. It's psychological. And when it's done well inside a D/s dynamic, it can be devastatingly hot.
I'm writing this as someone who finds this kink exciting from the dominant side, and who has enough D/s experience to know when something is hot on paper versus hot in practice. CEI can be both.
What Does CEI Mean?
CEI stands for cum eating instruction. It's a sexual scenario, usually within BDSM or fetish play, where one person is instructed to consume their own semen, typically by a dominant partner. The operative word there is instruction. The act matters, sure, but what makes it a kink is the fact that it happens under someone else's direction, as part of an erotic power exchange. The words are doing real work here: BDSM scholarship treats language, signs, and feeling as part of how power exchange gets built, not just as dirty garnish.
Most commonly this involves a submissive man being told, or made, to ingest his own ejaculate by a dominant partner, often a woman in femdom dynamics. It can be the centrepiece of a scene or the final act after a longer power exchange session. Either way, the control is the point.
Why "CEI Instructions" Can Mean Different Things Online
One thing worth stating plainly, since acronym soup blurs everything: this kink has nothing to do with child sexual abuse material. The established terms there are CSAM and CSEM, not CEI. That material is criminal, abusive, and not remotely related to the consenting-adults kink in this article.
CEI in Adult BDSM and Femdom Contexts
In the kink world, CEI has carved out a very specific niche. It's closely tied to femdom and JOI (jerk-off instructions) content; think of it as JOI with a filthy final course. The dominant doesn't just guide the submissive to orgasm; she adds the command that he has to eat it when he's done.
I want to be upfront about why this particular kink does it for me. Yes, there's the physical act, but what I actually get off on is what happens in someone's head when they're told to do something that every cultural message they've ever absorbed says is shameful, disgusting, beneath them, and they do it anyway. Because you told them to. Because in that moment, their desire to please you is stronger than their ego. That right there is dominance distilled.
The taboo is the engine. A lot of men have heard, directly or not, that tasting themselves is dirty, gay, weak, whatever insult got stapled to it. CEI takes that exact shame trigger and eroticises it. As sex therapist Jack Morin noted in his research on the erotic mind, breaking a sexual taboo can paradoxically make the act intensely arousing, and breaking with an expected persona can deepen that erotic charge. That wave of "Oh my god, I can't believe I'm doing this" doesn't kill the arousal; it becomes the arousal. Same reason a lot of BDSM works, really. The transgression is the turn-on.
The power dynamic is the other half. The dominant isn't only controlling when he comes. She gets the moment after too: the mess, the embarrassment, the little flicker of regret. The message is blunt: even that belongs to me. For someone wired for submission, that can be intoxicating. And from the dominant's side? Watching the internal battle play out across their face, knowing they're going to obey anyway. I love it. I won't pretend otherwise. You are seeing someone at their most exposed, and they're letting you see it.
And then there's the humiliation. Let's not dress this up. CEI is a form of erotic humiliation. Jay Wiseman, in SM 101: A Realistic Introduction, lists "having the submissive lick up their own ejaculate" explicitly in his catalogue of humiliation acts, alongside face-slapping, crawling, forced feminisation, and then makes the point that cuts through all the theorising: "Humiliation is mainly a state of mind... For an experience to be humiliating, the submissive must consider it humiliating." Which is exactly why CEI works when it works. You're not imposing disgust; you're unlocking something the submissive already carries. Researchers have treated humiliation as its own dimension of BDSM experience, not just a vague synonym for embarrassment. The submissive feels dirty, exposed, maybe ridiculous, and that feeling is what they crave. The naughtiness is the nectar. A lot of men fantasise about this while they're achingly hard, completely consumed by arousal, and then the second they actually come, the rational brain kicks back in and they want to crawl under the bed. CEI sits right in that gap. The conflicting emotions, release from orgasm versus the nervous dread of what comes next, can actually heighten the intensity of the whole experience. Pleasure and panic, swirling together.
While CEI most commonly appears in femdom settings, there aren't strict rules about who plays which role. A dominant man could command his male sub. A non-binary dominant could run the scene. The common thread is that the person consuming the semen is doing so under erotic authority from someone else, and it's their own semen. If someone else's fluids are involved, that's a different cum play kink entirely, and a different conversation about safety.
What CEI Instructions Usually Include
Every scene is different, because every D/s dynamic is different. But here's the general shape of how CEI tends to play out, whether between partners or in the fantasy framework of a video.
The dominant sets the frame. Sometimes I like making it plain from the first minute: "Tonight, you're doing exactly what I tell you." Other times, I prefer one little hint about a "cleanup task" and then let his imagination do the damage. I personally enjoy the slow reveal. Letting them wonder. Letting the anticipation build alongside the dread, watching them try to work out just how far this is going to go. Both approaches have their own psychological texture, but what stays constant is the power imbalance, front and centre.
Then comes the guided arousal. This is JOI territory: the submissive masturbates under direction. Edging is almost always part of it: stopping and starting, building frustration, making the eventual orgasm desperate and enormous. The dominant controls the pace, the permission, everything. Throughout, they might be verbally humiliating the sub, praising them, or both in dizzying alternation, and yes, that back-and-forth is deliberate. By the time permission finally comes, the sub should be horny enough to bargain against his own common sense. That's the trap.

The command lands. Eventually, finally, the dominant gives permission to come. And then, right as the submissive hits that peak or immediately after, the CEI instruction drops: eat it. This is the moment. The submissive is oversensitive, possibly already feeling the first wave of "post-nut clarity," and they've been ordered to push through every instinct telling them to stop. Obeying that command in that moment is an act of surrender so complete it can feel almost spiritual.

If the exact line that gets you is "Hold your cum in your mouth and show me," the data has your back. In BeMoreKinky's first-party data, 56.9% of subs said yes or maybe to hearing that command, compared with 45.8% of doms saying yes or maybe to saying it. That gap tells me something filthy and useful: the charge is not just in the order, but in being caught after orgasm with your mouth full, exposed, obedient, and unable to pretend you are still in control.

The act itself. The practical part can look a dozen ways: fingers, stomach, the dominant's hand, a boot, a little dish set on the floor. Use whatever you negotiated and whatever makes both of you hot. The dominant watches closely and keeps talking the sub through it. The watching is half the point: following through is far easier when someone is right there holding the frame. Some subs enjoy the taste. Others perform reluctance because the reluctance is the kink; they want to be pushed past it. Either way, there's often embarrassment and pride tangled up together. The strange thrill of having done something so taboo and survived it.
Aftercare, not credits. In a video, this is usually where the dominant smirks, says "good boy," and the screen fades. In real life, this is where aftercare matters enormously, but we'll get to that.
Some variations layer in chastity or denial beforehand, multiple orgasms, multiple "servings." But the basic architecture is one climax, one command, one act of submission that the sub will be thinking about for days. (And the dominant, too. Trust me on that.)

Consent, Boundaries, and Negotiation Before CEI Roleplay
CEI has humiliation and body fluids in it, so talk before you play. Even if the scene later feels like a "surprise," the possibility needs a yes before anyone's clothes come off. The how-to of negotiation, hard and soft limits, and Yes/No/Maybe lists is covered elsewhere; what matters here is what's specific to CEI.
Both partners need to actually want this. Curiosity counts. So does a hard no. Nobody gets dragged through disgust so someone else can complete a fantasy.
Negotiate the tone of the humiliation. Erotic humiliation lives and dies on specificity. Some people love being called degrading names during CEI; others have trigger words that would wound them rather than arouse them. Being called "dirty cum-eater" might be perfect while "pathetic loser" crosses a line; only you two can know. Easton and Hardy put it well in The New Topping Book: "if your bottom tells you that he loves or hates humiliation, be sure to find out what kinds of humiliation he loves or hates." That distinction is where most people cut the negotiation short and then wonder why something landed wrong.
Discuss limits on the act itself. Maybe the sub can handle tasting but not swallowing. Maybe they want a chaser ready (a piece of chocolate, a drink to follow immediately). Maybe they'll attempt a swallow but spit after the dominant is satisfied with the effort. Porn gets to cut away; you still have to live in the room together. Your CEI can be strict or lenient, just be on the same page before you start.
Plan aftercare, specifically for humiliation. Hours after CEI a sub can get hit with the nasty afterthought: "Did I actually do that? Do they think I'm gross now?" Drop the act and say the thing plainly: "That was hot. I loved watching you trust me like that. I do not think you're disgusting." Midori makes the same case in Wild Side Sex: humiliation needs a soft landing afterward, or it stops being play. Carlstrom's ethnographic work agrees: humiliation becomes intimate when the scene stays bounded and consensual. Don't skip this part.
On recording: Since CEI commonly appears in cam shows and one partner might want to film, never record without explicit consent. Where that footage goes (or doesn't go) must be agreed. And don't treat porn consent as a template for your private scene; feminist analyses of humiliation porn argue that apparent consent on screen does not automatically settle questions about harm or coercion. This shouldn't need saying. And yet.
Hygiene, STIs, and the Actual Fluid
For a healthy person, swallowing your own semen is generally not a medical drama. It's mostly water, with small amounts of protein, fructose, zinc, and other compounds, so a typical ejaculate carries only around five to seven calories, not the protein-shake payload the jokes imply. According to medical experts, the body digests those components like any other food, and it won't harm you.
Since CEI specifically involves your own semen, STI risk is essentially moot; you can't catch something new from yourself. If someone else's fluids were involved, that would be a different calculation entirely.
On taste: Diet, hydration, and habits all affect flavour. The pineapple trick is anecdotally popular; fruits and sweet foods reportedly make things milder, while red meat, garlic, and smoking make things more bitter. There's limited scientific study on this, but if you know a scene is coming (excuse the pun), extra water and some fruit probably won't hurt. And for what it's worth: fresh and warm is easier to deal with than cold and congealed. Don't turn this into a chemistry project.
On surfaces: If the scene has cum on a floor, a shoe, or some other deliberately degrading surface, pause for half a second and ask what else is on that surface. A clean plate on the ground gives the visual humiliation without actual grime.
On quantity: A typical load is maybe one or two teaspoons. Small on paper. Not always small when you're staring at it with a post-orgasm brain and a command hanging over you. You don't have to do one heroic swallow. Lick. Breathe. Keep going, especially if you're new.
The real risks with CEI are emotional, not physical.
First-Time CEI: Questions to Ask Before You Try It
What specifically turns you on about this? Is it the power dynamic: being utterly controlled? The taboo-breaking: doing something "forbidden" and feeling the rush? The curiosity about tasting yourself? Those are different cravings, and they want different scenes. If humiliation is the hook, maybe the dirty talk gets meaner. If it's curiosity, keep it more daring than degrading. Name the pull before you try to push the button.
Is this better as fantasy? There's no shame in keeping something as fantasy. Some people are wildly turned on by an idea and still know their actual body would vote no. Let that be okay. Fantasy is free. You could incorporate CEI into dirty talk without ever doing the physical act; a dominant threatening "I'll make you eat it" during an intense scene might deliver enough of the jolt on its own. Only proceed to the real thing if you actually want to.
What happens to you in the minute after orgasm? This one matters, so don't lie to yourself. Orgasm and ejaculation are related but not identical processes, so pay attention to your actual after-orgasm pattern instead of assuming the physical finish tells the whole story, since orgasm and ejaculation are related but not identical processes. If you regularly experience that post-orgasmic crash where arousal plummets and everything sexual suddenly seems vaguely horrifying, CEI will hit at exactly that moment. Some people find that riding through it under orders is what makes the whole thing wild. Others would find it awful. Figure that out before you're naked and trying to be brave.
If you already know you crash hard, plan around it. Maybe the dominant holds your cum and gives you a moment before the command. Maybe she reminds you right before you come, while arousal is still high, so you're carrying momentum into the act. A good dominant might prompt: "You're going to want to back out when you finish, but I know you want this, don't you?", giving the sub a chance to reaffirm consent while still turned on. That kind of attention matters. Dominance without care is just someone being a prick.
Do you have personal triggers around humiliation? If you've struggled with low self-esteem or carry particular insecurities, be mindful of how CEI might interact with those. Some straight men worry that enjoying this somehow reflects on their masculinity or their orientation. It doesn't. I'll say that plainly: it doesn't. Sexual orientation is about who you're attracted to, not what body fluids you play with. A man doing CEI for his female partner is showing how deeply he's surrendered to her control. That's about submission, full stop.
But if that worry exists, talk it out. And if hearing degrading language during sex would secretly reinforce a negative self-belief rather than feel like play, that's worth examining before you're mid-scene. Experts note that people with deeply low self-esteem might internalise degrading words instead of keeping them in the play space where they belong. You can say: "I want the act, but go easy on the dirty talk." Keep it naughty, not annihilating.
What if your body says no? Sometimes the real thing lands and your whole body says nope. If you're with a partner, safeword and stop. Then clean up and do not turn it into a courtroom. If you're doing it solo and can't bring yourself to follow through after coming, laugh it off, clean up, try again another time or don't. One experience doesn't define you. Not everything has to work the first time, or ever.
And if you loved it but feel weird about loving it? Congratulations, you found the awkward part of kink. Shower if you want. Drink something. Tell a trusted person if talking helps. Big scenes can kick up weird feelings later. You're fine.
CEI is not for everyone. But for the people who feel that pull, who get something electric from the combination of shame and surrender and obedience, it can be really, really good.
Start honest. Stay communicating. And if it turns out to be your thing, enjoy the hell out of it.
