Switch Dynamic Contract Contract
A dual-configuration agreement for partners who alternate between Dominant and submissive roles.
A switch dynamic contract solves a challenge that most BDSM templates ignore entirely: how do you negotiate two complete role sets within a single relationship? This dual-configuration agreement is designed for partners who alternate between Dominant and submissive roles, and it provides separate sections for each configuration: different titles, different limits, different rules, and different protocols depending on who is currently leading.
The contract includes detailed transition protocols that define exactly how partners move from one configuration to the other, eliminating ambiguity and preventing the awkward mid-scene power struggles that can derail a switch dynamic. It also features a deadlock resolution mechanism for situations where both partners want the same role at the same time. In a switch relationship, that conversation needs a framework.
Whether you switch on a scene-by-scene basis, weekly rotation, or by mutual agreement in the moment, this switch dynamic contract template gives your relationship a structure that honours both sides of who you are. It is the only template in this collection that treats power exchange as a genuinely reciprocal practice.

Switch Agreement
Between ________ (Varies by configuration) and ________ (Varies by configuration)
This contract is a personal agreement built on trust. It is not legally binding. Either party may withdraw consent at any time.
1.Purpose & Preamble
This Switch Dynamic Agreement is a unique contract that honours both parties' capacity and desire to experience both sides of the power-exchange spectrum. Rather than fixing one person in authority, this agreement establishes two complete configurations, Config A and Config B, that can be activated through a structured transition protocol. Both parties are equals who take turns leading and following, and neither configuration is "real" while the other is "play." Both are genuine, both are valued, and both require the same commitment, skill, and care. This agreement includes special provisions for transitions, deadlock resolution, and a strict non-retaliation clause to ensure that power exchanged in one configuration is never abused in the other.
2.Roles & Responsibilities
Varies by configuration's responsibilities
- •Whichever party holds the Dominant role in the active configuration bears all standard Dominant responsibilities: safety, leadership, clear communication, fair discipline, and aftercare.
- •The current Dominant must not leverage knowledge gained while in the submissive role to humiliate, manipulate, or punish the other outside of negotiated play.
- •The current Dominant respects the transition protocol and does not attempt to delay or prevent a legitimate switch request.
- •The current Dominant provides aftercare appropriate to the active configuration before any transition occurs.
Varies by configuration's responsibilities
- •Whichever party holds the submissive role in the active configuration embraces it fully with sincerity, obedience, and trust.
- •The current submissive does not undermine the Dominant's authority by referencing what happens in the other configuration.
- •The current submissive communicates openly about needs, limits, and emotional state.
- •The current submissive uses the safeword system without hesitation.
3.Duration & Review
6 months
Monthly (conducted in neutral mode, outside either configuration)
4.Limits & Boundaries
Each party has provided a complete limits list that applies in both configurations. Hard limits are absolute regardless of which role the person currently occupies.
Soft limits are documented separately for each configuration, as comfort levels may differ depending on role. Exploration of any soft limit requires in-the-moment consent.
Full mutual health disclosure has occurred. Both parties update each other on any changes immediately.
5.Safewords & Signals
Red / Yellow / Green traffic light system
Dropping a held object (keys or ball) signals full stop
Safewords are honoured immediately in both configurations without question, consequence, or reference in the other configuration. What happens in one configuration stays in that configuration.
6.Rules & Protocols
- 1.Both parties honour the active configuration fully while it is in effect. Half-hearted participation undermines the dynamic.
- 2.Transitions follow the transition protocol exactly. No spontaneous switching without the signal phrase and neutral period.
- 3.The minimum duration for any single configuration activation is one full day (24 hours from completion of transition ritual).
- 4.Monthly reviews are conducted in neutral mode, outside either configuration, with both parties as equals.
- 5.Punishments from one configuration do not carry over into the other. Each configuration has a clean slate.
- 6.Neither party may reference the other's submissive behaviour as leverage, mockery, or ammunition. The non-retaliation clause applies absolutely.
- 7.Both parties maintain their own limits lists and update them at every monthly review.
- 8.Aftercare is completed in the active configuration before any transition begins.
7.Transition Protocol
30 minutes of neutral, out-of-dynamic time. Both parties use first names, speak as equals, hydrate, and decompress from the outgoing configuration. This period is non-negotiable and cannot be shortened.
At the end of the neutral period, the outgoing Dominant removes their symbolic item (collar, bracelet, or ring designated as the "authority token") and the incoming Dominant puts it on. Both parties verbally confirm: "[Name] now holds the compass." The new configuration is active.
Each configuration must remain active for a minimum of one full day (24 hours) from the completion of the transition ritual. No switch requests are valid during this window except for safeword-level emergencies.
If both parties request a switch simultaneously or cannot agree on timing: (1) the party who switched most recently into the Dominant role yields. "Last-switch priority" means the person who has been Dominant for longer gets to remain Dominant; (2) if timing is equal or disputed, the dynamic defaults to Config A until the next scheduled monthly review, at which point a new plan is agreed upon.
8.Punishments & Consequences
- •Punishments are configuration-specific. See Config A and Config B rule sets below for details.
- •Violating the non-retaliation clause results in an immediate pause, a neutral-mode discussion, and a mandatory 48-hour cool-down before any configuration is reactivated.
- •Attempting to force or manipulate a switch to avoid punishment in the current configuration results in the punishment being doubled upon return to that configuration.
9.Rewards
- •Rewards are configuration-specific. See Config A and Config B rule sets below.
- •Successfully completing a full cycle (both configurations experienced at least once) earns a joint celebration: a special date night, experience, or gift chosen together.
10.Aftercare
Standard aftercare (blanket, water, snack, physical closeness, skin check) is provided by whichever party holds the Dominant role at the time.
Emotional aftercare includes explicit reassurance that the submissive's vulnerability was valued and respected. Transition aftercare (after switching) includes a check-in on how the previous configuration felt and whether any emotions need processing before the new one begins.
Aftercare after every scene. Check-in the morning after any transition. Weekly conversation (in neutral mode) every Sunday. Monthly formal review.
11.Privacy & Confidentiality
The switch dynamic is disclosed only to mutually agreed individuals. Details of either configuration are not shared externally.
Media requires mutual advance consent. All media tagged with the relevant configuration. Deleted within 72 hours of termination.
Neither party reveals the other's involvement in any kink or power-exchange activity. Permanent obligation.
12.Termination
Either party may end this agreement at any time. Upon termination: both configurations deactivate immediately; all symbolic items are returned; media is deleted within 72 hours; a neutral-mode closure conversation occurs within one week; privacy obligations remain permanent.
